Rabbi Silk opens by expressing to us her inner dialogue as the High Holy Days are coming. She portrays her conflicting feeling on whether or not she is prepared for the new year. Even when all the plans are made and the temple is prepared, she still feels unready. However after talking with her colleagues she finds comfort in the simple truth that, “none of us feel ready.” The Torah tells us that the new year comes for everyone, ready or not, but we can find unity and comfort in that feeling. Perhaps with that alone we are ready, even if we don’t feel it ourselves.
