Beryl Chernov

Beryl P. Chernov has devoted his career to Jewish communal service with extensive leadership experience. Prior to joining Congregation Emanu El, Beryl served as the National Executive Director of the Israel Cancer Research Fund, the largest non-governmental funder of cancer research in Israel. For nearly two decades, Beryl also served as the Executive Director of the esteemed Park Avenue Synagogue in Manhattan. Earlier in his career, Beryl held significant roles at North Shore Synagogue in Long Island, NY and served as the inaugural Director of the Weinberger Jewish Family Center at the Sid Jacobson JCC.

Beryl holds a bachelor’s degree in Medieval Jewish Philosophy from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York and a master’s degree in school administration from Hofstra University. He has been actively involved in national leadership within the North American Association of Synagogue Executives (NAASE), the National Association of Temple Administrators (NATA), and the Metropolitan Association of Synagogue Executives (MetroASE). Beryl is a sought-after guest lecturer and consultant for organizations such as UJA/Federation, the Jewish Early Childhood Association, The Jewish Education Project, United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, and the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. He has also served on the National Board of Hebrew Public Charter Schools and Camp Ramah – Nyack.

Beryl is the proud parent of Sara, Nora, and Abby, and the regular walker of their dog, Percy.
