Join us for a dynamic presentation and discussion led by Anna Ashburn, our Shalva Project clinician. Anna is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a decade of experience working with children and adolescents in various settings including schools, summer camps, and therapeutic settings. Through these experiences, she has seen youth from diverse backgrounds grow, change, and thrive with natural and environmental support.
This presentation is for parents, caregivers, and other support persons who work with youth aged 12-18.
As we’re living in a time of rapid change for both teens and the world around them, it is critical that we understand how the pressures of social media, academic expectations, mental health challenges, and even global events can create a storm of uncertainty for adolescents.
Understanding how the adolescent brain is wired to respond to these challenges can give adults the tools to offer the right kind of support.
Adolescence can be an exciting yet challenging time, both for teens and the people who care for them.
In this session, we’ll take a deep dive into the incredible changes happening in the adolescent brain and how those shifts can impact behavior, emotions, and decision-making. From navigating mood swings to understanding the pressures that come with growing up, we’ll explore some of the mental health struggles teens face and how they might be tied to culture, peer influence, and the brain’s ongoing development. Most importantly, we’ll talk about how trusted adults can be the steady hands and open hearts teens need. With empathy, understanding, and practical tools, we hope that you’ll walk away with new ways to support and guide the teens in your life.
