King David plays a prominent role in the history of ancient Israel, and his legacy continues to influence Judaism to this day. Jewish literature is filled with dramatic and fantastical stories about David’s role as a military hero, the author of the Psalms, and forerunner of the Messiah. Together, we will study the history of this complicated biblical figure and explore some of the most engaging myths and stories about the “sweet singer of Israel.”
