The Last Rose of Shanghai is a powerful story involving the relationship between a Shanghai heiress and a penniless Jewish refugee. Sophisticated heiress Aiyi takes a chance when she hires Jewish pianist Ernest to play jazz in her nightclub. She has no idea that she will be risking everything that she loves and holds dear as a forbidden love blossoms between her and Ernest. Waina Dai Randel’s poignant unforgettable love story is a page turner filled with suspense, while revealing a little-known segment of World War II history. This month’s book selection will be reviewed by Marilyn Nathan.
