All families are members of the Becker PTO. There are no membership fees. All parents are invited to participate in our monthly meetings. We encourage you to become involved in our school community as a volunteer. There are many opportunities for our parents to volunteer, from bringing snacks, driving on a field trip, being a room parent or helping with one of the many events the organization arranges for the children and families.
Here are some of the highlights of the PTO's yearly programs.
New Family Welcome - This event is for all new families and their Becker buddy family. The new family welcome is held the week before school begins.
Back to School Night - For parents only- Back to School night is held on a weekday evening in September. The evening begins with an informational meeting with the director and then parents visit with the teachers in a classroom setting and become familiar with the curriculum.
Family Fun Day at Colonial Park - held on a Sunday morning in October, this is a fun morning for parents and children.
Book Fair at Barnes and Noble - Activities, music and arts and crafts for the children while parents shop for books. Parents may donate books for their classrooms and Sugar's Library.
Fathers' Breakfast - Dad or a grandfather, uncle or friend joins their child in the classroom for breakfast and activities such as creating an art project with their child.
Chanukah Happening - a fun morning at Becker to celebrate Chanukah. Children are entertained by a play or puppet show in the Chapel and then proceed to Feld Hall for various games, crafts and cookie decorating.
Purim Happening - The students celebrate Purim and dress in costumes. There is entertainment in the chapel followed by snack, crafts and games in Feld Hall.
Model Seder -This is an authentic "child friendly" Passover Seder led by the Rabbi. Each child has his or her own Seder plate with the Passover symbols and traditional foods.
Becker Concert - The concert is Becker's fundraiser. Every two years, Becker brings a popular band to entertain Becker families. After the concert, the guests enjoy a dinner reception and meet the band.
Transportation Fair - The transportation fair is held in April. All Becker classes tour the Emanu El parking lot to see and explore a variety of vehicles from trucks to art cars and horse driven carriages. This is a wonderful morning for the school.
Mother's Breakfast - Moms, grandmothers, or aunts enjoy breakfast and activities in the classroom such as creating an art project with their child.
Pre-K Graduation - Pre-K parents plan and organize the Pre-K graduation reception held at the end of the school year.
THROUGHOUT THE YEAR there are many opportunities to volunteer such as:
Caring/Tzedakah – Chairs, with the director, choose the charities for the donations. Individuals help gather the donations collected at the school for charity and deliver the items collected.
Tot Shabbat - Volunteers bring fruit or cookies for the monthly Tot Shabbat service. The hosts are invited to do the Shabbat blessings during the service.
Room Parent/Teacher Appreciation - Room parents coordinate activities including teacher appreciation lunches, teacher gifts social activities, and inform parents of upcoming events.
Becker Buddies – Parents coordinate with the Admissions Director to match current families to new families attending Becker for the first time. The chairs also coordinate New Family Welcome events held before school begins.
Shabbat Sacks - Come on Friday mornings to assemble and distribute Shabbat sacks.
Screenings and school photos - Chairs schedule the classes and organize the volunteers needed to escort children to vision, hearing and speech screenings and to the photographer for school photos.
Annual Giving: Organize the annual giving campaign promoting donations for school enhancements and classroom wish lists.
